What do you need when flying with multiple pets?
Question by lea: What do you need when flying with multiple pets?
I have a dog and two rats that I need to fly across the country and back.
I know I will need a health check and vaccination records for the dog… but what about the rats?
And how do you fly rodents? Do I need their cage? Or would a travel carrier be sufficient?

I love my little rat too but I would not fly him across the country. I would suggest finding someone to take care of him for a while. If you have a friend or something like that. I am not sure you can fly them because of disease control and the possibility of them escaping.

Well, you will not be able to bring the rats on the plane so you will need to contact the airline as to what they will require to go into the hold.
You simply <> talk to the airline about transporting rats. They will tell you:
- is it allowed at all
- can they be carried into the cabin or will they have to fly in the cargo hold
- what kind of carrier must be used
- how much will it cost.
Please call them as soon as possible, since you have to talk with them about the same issues for your dog, you might as well ask about the rats at the same time. Whatever you do, do not simply show up at the airport with your pets – you must make arrangements ahead of time.
