What is the easiest/less stressful way to travel with a ferret (about an hour car ride)?
Question by Madison 3:16 Anderson Rhodes: What is the easiest/less stressful way to travel with a ferret (about an hour car ride)?
When I adopt…the shelter is an hour or so away. I’m a bit worried about the travel. I will be in the back seat with her (I don’t drive and usually sit in the back anyway). What can I bring besides cozy blankets and her carrier box (i will get her a heavy duty travel one, but for now a 5 buck box at the pet store has to do). The same that I basically brought all of my other animals home in. What else should I bring and how can I calm her if she’s all upset?

A few bits of ferret chow/treats might be helpful, also a soft toy she can snuggle. Don’t open the box while in the car, ever, ferrets bolt when scared and you really don’t want a scared ferret running around inside the car. How you react depends on how she reacts, if she curls up in a corner and hides there, just let her be, same if she is bouncing off the walls trying to find an exit, but if she is in a mid zone, sort of calmly looking for exits and making unhappy noises you can talk to her and stick a finger through an airhole and let her sniff and lick it
Good luck, and remember no matter how bad the first car ride is at least the destination is worth it

bring something she can burrow into, when I went and got my ferret I took a warm fuzzy pillow case and she just slept in there on the 2 hour drive home
