Question by Lara: Does anyone have experience flying a dog internationally?
In a few months, I have to take my 1 year old Shih Tzu Maltese on a huge flight from Australia to Europe. I’m using a Pet-Relocating service, but I’m still terrified. Does anyone have any advice or know of the best airline to fly with animals?
If I fly first class or something can I take her in coach with me?

Me and my mum are going to move over to Australia with our dog and 2 cats. How much (the full cost) is it to take them all over…going through customs, plane trip etc…? Please separate the dog and cat prices. From Auckland airport to gold coast. Thanks!

Most airlines and pet shipping companies offer quotes on enquiry, in other words you’ll have to contact them directly for a quote. When you do check to see if the Australian import fees are included int eh cost of transport. If so it’ll save a lot of hassle. You’ll need to invest in an approved carrier to have your pets on an aircraft, your local pet needs store should be able to direct you in this instance. Keep in mind that your pets may not necessarily be on the same flight as you due to space limitations. Check with your airline about this, some will endeavour to allow your pets to be on the same flight. Also in most cases you may need to pick your pets up from the cargo depot of the airline your pets travelled with, they will need to be dropped off there as well prior to departure.
The good news is that pets travelling from NZ do not need to be quarantined. However there are some restrictions. Pet import information can be found here: http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/cat-dogs/countries/cat1?name=New%20Zealand

Question by Terry: What airlines allow pets in the cabin on international flights?
I’m trying to find out which airlines allow pets in the cabin on international flights – specifically from Canada to Costa Rica or US to Costa Rica. Not interested in checking as baggage or cargo – IN THE CABIN! Thanks

Usually most airlines, although if you fly with a dog to Australia, they are forced to kill it. Immigration rules. So be careful. Ask which ever airline you fly first.
