Question by Check me out: How safe is it to fly a cat from Bangkok to Chicago on KLM?
He will be travelling from Bangkok to Amsterdam (13 hours) with an overnight stay in the Schipol pet hotel. From there he will travel from Amsterdam to Chicago (9 hours). How safe is this if he is flying on KLM in cargo? I know that KLM is one of the best airlines to use for flying pets but im concerned about the freezing temperatures at the stops and also the flight duration.

I have used KLM 4 times and never had a problem. At the hotel they are checked by a vet and if there is a problem the cat doesn’t go on. They will make sure it is healthy to fly. They pet and feed and water the animals while there. I trusted them to ship 4 cats at 4 different times. The cats that came here came out purring and snuggling.

And they are climate controlled

Question by worleyblue: Is it possible to fly with a large dog in the passenger cabin of the plane?
I am moving from USA to AUS and will be taking my Great Dane with me. A typical dane, she suffers from anxiety and I fear flying in the cargo area may be too much for her. Is there a way to qualify her as “special needs?” Thanks for your input, I’m really worried about this!

Question by Matt T: How should i fly my pets home?
I’m currently deployed and stationed in SC. I’m expecting to come home soon and we are trying to figure out how we are going to fly the dogs home. My wife is currently with family on the west coast, and we have 3 dogs. What are some options as far as flying pets? Two of the dogs are small, and 1 boxer. Anything information is helpful. Thank You.

The cheapest – and best way for them – to do this would be for you and your wife to fly with them and each have a small dog in a carrier in the cabin and the Boxer in the cargo hold. That is, if your dogs are small enough to fit in a carrier that’ll fit under the seat infront of you. If they aren’t, then all would have to fly cargo.
You could also just have someone bring the dogs to the airport and have them ALL fly cargo. Personally I think one should avoid shipping cargo if at all possible. It’s scary for the dogs, there’s always that chance that airflow is not turned on and the dogs will be FAR happier with you in the cabin.
Airlines vary greatly with their fees. Cheapest in the States is Alaska Airlines who only charge $ 100 each way for in-cabin. Others are as high as $ 175 each way and some don’t allow pets in the cabin – PERIOD. Call and ask for cargo rates. Most are based on the size of the carrier and the weight of carrier + pet.
Note that all of them will need to be up to date on their shots and have health certificates from your vet that were issued no more than I think it’s 10 days before your flight. Also don’t just show up with your pets and expect to be able to take them on board. You have to RESERVE the spots by calling the airline as they only allow a certain number of animals in the cabin per flight.

Question by SummerLove13: What is the least expensive way/place to ship my dog and cat from Chicago to Sweden?
I am moving from Chicago to Sweden in August and need to either ship my animals or have them fly with me. I have a cat that is 13 pounds and a dog that weighs 67 pounds. Anyone with advice on where to look for the cheapest price would be greatly appreciated!

As you’re probably flying from the US to Sweden, it would be a good idea to see if your airline will take them as checked baggage. Most airlines will do this. It would be much better for the animals to travel with you as seeing you on arrival after such a strange trip will reassure them. Your airline will advise of the types of crate necessary to transport the animals.
Have you checked the Swedish government requirements for importing pets? See http://www.sjv.se/home/amnesomraden/animalhealthwelfare/importexportofliveanimals/dogsandcats/listedcontries.4.731e90106fedb4a488000155.html The US is a ‘listed’ country, so you must follow these conditions to import the animals.
