Question by : Where does my dog have to be in his carrier in the airport?
I am flying with my new puppy for the first time tomorrow and I have never flown with a dog before. He is flying in the cabin with us and we already made his reservation and went to the vet. Like most young puppies he does not like to stay in his carrier unless he is sleeping, I know you have to keep him in there on the flight its self but what about in the airport? Do I have to keep him in there from the minute we walk into the door to check in to when we walk out the door at our final destination?

Only your airline could tell you for sure, but since most people love to see puppies, it wouldn’t surprise me if you can get away with having him out of the carrier in the waiting are as long as he’s on a leash.
You’re biggest problem is that no one is looking for a puppy in the airport. People in airports are very distracted. He could easily get stepped on! I wouldn’t take him out of the carrier unless you can find a gate area that is fairly calm.

Question by Princessd1010: Pet Carrier used on Southwest flights?
I have an 10.5 lb Maltese that I am traveling with at Christmas time. I have researched the Southwest requirements but it seems like any carrier that is under 8 in high are for 7 lb and under dogs. I would prefer one with wheels but would take whatever I can get if I can get her there safely. I found the Pet Gear I-GO2 Escort that is only 9 inches high and is soft sided so it could probably be mushed down if need be. Anyone ever used this carrier on a Southwest flight? Any suggestions for a good pet carrier that would be good for an almost 11 lb dog and still fit their seat requirements? Please suggestions welcome.

If your dog can’t fit in the 8.25 high carrier, then he is too big to fly in the cabin.
You dog has to be able to stand up and move around in the carrier when it’s put under the seat in front of you. Sounds like your pooch may be too large to do that.
Squishing a soft sided case won’t solve the problem of having a dog that’s too big to travel safely under the seat.
An 11 pound dog is not a small dog.
