Question by Emie86: How can I travel with my two cats?
I may be traveling back to where I’m originally from. I know amtrak and greyhound does not allow pets aboard. I’ve looked at flights, and some of them allow to have your pets as carry-on. But I can’t find the height specifications for the carrier, and since this isn’t something that is for sure I don’t want to call around to a bunch of different airlines and ask the same question.
Is there any other alternatives, and would anyone happen to know what the size of the carrier has to be?

The cats have to be able to stand up, go in a circle by turning around in it, and lay down. Remember to make sure and investigate into how they treat the animals on the flight. Some animals die easily. Good Luck.

Question by : Can my kitten travel with me?
i have two kittens and am wondering if anyone knows whether or not they are allowed on American Airlines flights as carry ons? Also do i have to pay any kind of fee for them to come with me? am i allowed to put them both in the same pet carrier or do they need their own?
Finally, does anyone know of any over the counter animal sedatives i could use to make the flight easier on them?

Kittens under 6 months old can ride together in one carrier under the seat (double check with the airlines). If they won’t allow it, then you need to have someone fly with you because only one cat is allowed per person on the flight (max of 2 pets on the flight – in cabin).
I would NOT use any meds on flying cats – they don’t react well and if they throw up, they could choke to death if they are on sedatives.

Question by Ryan F: How do I move two very travel-averse cats long distance?
I’ve looked at the previous answers on this topic, and I’m not sure there’s anything that can help. The last time I moved one of my cats, I had the vet give him an oral sedative, put him in the carrier, and he still cried and howled nonstop for the entire 20-hour trip. I’ve now adopted a second cat who hates travel just as much and also defecates the second he is put into a kitty carrier; needless to say, this makes any trip exceedingly unpleasant, especially in the summer. I would also be driving a rental car, and sometimes they don’t allow animals in their vehicles. I have considered air travel as an alternative, but 1) news stories about airline negligence causing pet deaths in baggage holds have me worried and 2) I read in a previous answer that the fee per cat would be $ 250, and I simply don’t have an extra $ 500 to spare; I’ll be lucky if I can pay for this trip (from Minneapolis to Boston) at all. Are there any other options that might be more effective? I’m at a loss.

Trick the poopy cat by putting her in a carrier until she poos, then exchange carriers while you clean the first.
Tell your vet what happened the last time you tried sedatives. He can give you a tranquilizer that will work. Then you can drive them.

Question by BrandonJack: Transport Pet in a Car Unattended?
My friend who is a single mom has 2 kids and 6 cats is moving from California to Tennessee. She will hire a u haul to take her stuff. She will sit with the kids in the uhaul. She plans to attach the car using the hitch to the uhaul. She will then put two cats in one carrier in the car. When she stops along the way she will feed the pets. Is it safe to transport pets like this unattended. Wont it get crampy for them when they are two in one carrier for a journey of almost 34 hrs. Are there any laws that prevent this. I really care for those cats and have been telling her to give them to me instead of causing this trauma. I just want to ensure that such a travel for a pet is allowed under the law.
