Question by RoseofSharon: Has anyone used a pet airline where they are flown in the main cabin? What was your experience?
We live in Wisconsin, and getting a pup from NewJersey. In this winter weather, I am afraid to chance driving. I have heard horror stories about pets being flown in cargo. I have been told that you can request a pressurized cargo in some airlines. I also have read about an airline that actually is only for pet travel and they have kennels right in the main cabin instead of seats. I am looking for people with experience with flying their pups and suggestions.

Just recently I read about an airline that caters only to pets, called Petairways- Sorry to say that all the reviews were NEGATIVE- When pets are sent by scheduled airlines in their cargo section, trust me they do not have problems , the only problem is if your pet is a pug or those pets like persian cats who have flat faces they suffer from respiratory problems and when its on high altitude they do tend to suffer and some also do not make it, depends on the travel time- Aircrafts are pressurised even caro sections

If who ever is sending the pet via a scheduled airline they will have guidelines as to the pet carriers, and a bottle suspended from the carrier for drinking water- I am not sure as u have not mentioned who it is that is sending the puppy, friend or a breeder, but normally the pup is just given a lick of a vitamin called HI CAL, this is to keep its strength up and not let it pee or do its business for the duration of the flight-A warm blanket, a toy etc are always kept in the carrier-Make sure that whoever is sending the pup , also has the the pup covered with a jacket or coat to keep it warm in the flight

The flight time from New Jersey to Wisconsin is not that long so be relaxed He will be safe-
I have flown my pooch real long distances, from Europe to Canada, from Canada to Singapore ., all about 16 hours ++ and all were fine.
All the best -and Enjoy your new pooch

Which airlines allow pets to fly? I have 2 cats that I want to take with me when I go back home from christmas.

We traveled 5 years ago with our dog on Delta Airlines when we moved down South. Our mini-poodle, about 10 lbs., was allowed to fly with us in the cabin but underneath my seat in an approved airline carrier (it was a soft one I bought at PetSmart that had a tag verifying airline approval). The soft carriers are nicer for a lot of reasons: more flexible for under the seat, easier to manage than a hard carrier, and probably a bit softer for the pet to travel in.

Getting back to the specifics, I had to pay $ 75 one way and the airline required proof of up-to-date rabies and other necessary vaccines. I was told when I made my reservation that they only allow 2 in-cabin pets per flight IN TOTAL. Whether or not this rule still applies, you’ll have to check. If so, your 2 cats would fill the limit right then and there.

We also arrived at the airport 1/2 hour before the suggested 2 hours in advance just to make certain we allowed ourselves plenty of time.

You might want to check with your vet when you get the proof of vaccinations and see if he/she can dispense any kind of safe tranquilizer for your cats.

Good luck and hope you have a “purr-fect” Christmas !!
